Carmichael’s Nutrition Q&A

cycling nutrition

What?! "No eating before bed?"

WHAT?? "No eating before my rides and workouts!?"

Nope. I’ll explain by answering the following questions…

Graeme,

"I have your Cyclo-Fuel nutrition videos and cd-roms, and I love them! I have a question that came up after reading your "Top 10 Everyday Cyclist Nutrition Secrets". Number 7 says "No Food 2-3 Hrs Before Bed," and below in the writing you say to try to not eat carbs for 2-3 hours before bed. I was wondering if it’s ok to eat some meat, eggs, or maybe a protein shake (that has really low sugar per serving - 1 gram) before bed? Would you recommend eating these before bed, or just not anything at all? If I go to bed hungry, will I have enough nutrients to repair muscle and recover glycogen storages? Also, what are your thoughts on peanut butter? I can’t seem to quit eating it! (The good kind..that separates if it’s not in the fridge.) Thanks for all your help Graeme! Your approach to nutrition is, to me, hands-down the best out there! I look forward to hearing your response."

Very respectfully, –Scott Carmichael Sparta, TN
